More Chords
Other two fingered chords and progressions
There are some other real cool techniques that are simple to do and sound cool. One of my favorites is to take a
two stringed power chord and simple move the root down one fret.

Another cool technique is to play an open note combined with some chords higher up on the neck.
This is similar to what is called a pedal tone. A pedal tone usually involves a single note that has other notes or chords changing around it.
In the example below the pedal note is the open “A”. It is the main riff from Motley Crue’s “Looks that Kill”

Here’s a little trickier open note two fingered lick. You need to mute the third string
with the tip of your third finger where the x’s are. This sounds a little better with less distortion.

The above riff is a small section of “Whole Hearted” by Extreme. Whole Hearted uses a lot of cool techniques like sliding basic chord shapes to different positions on the neck to come up with cool but easy chords. I will cover this in a later lesson but you cam listen to the sample below to see if you can figure out what is happening.

Inverted Chords
Inverted chords are where the root not is not the lowest note of the chord. Using inverted chords alows you to change
chords quickly and easily or add a differnt flavor to the tone of the chord.
These two chords are the same E power chord. The second version has the B note as the lowest note and the root (E)
is the high note.

Now before you start to e-mail me with hate mail I realize the correct way to play this riff is nice and low on the neck to get a nice ballsy tone.
