Josh,
Sounds like you didn't know how to setup the Marshall, or you need to clean the wax from your ears. SS Crate amps back then sucked then, as they do now compared to the Marshall Mosfet or even the original Valvestate line. I have two Mosfet heads, one running through a Peavey MS 4x12 loaded with WGS Reaper 55HZ and the other running through an old Roland 4x8 cab that is modded to look like a Marshall cab. Either setup sounds awesome and has every bit of the classic Marshall drive and sound. I've owned a '76 JMP 50 non master head, two JCM 800 2204 heads and a DSL 100. The Mosfet holds up very well when compared to these tube models. The biggest thing is tubes vs. solid state design. If your a great player, then the Mosfet can sound just as good and most people at a gig won't know the damn difference unless they are gear obsessed snobs from the Internet.

Thick distortion for the metal head (me) ive been playing actively with the band for 7 years and have seen alot of variety. Mesa, B52 (my last amp), 6505, Line 6, Marshall are all are great sounding but the price may not be right for some. Look to the Bugera 333XL for a great sounding amp for the working mans budget. Its REALLY loud and likes to be pushed. My last amp (B52 AT 100) had similar tones, not as refined and couldn't handle being pushed with the amount of gain i like (lots) being driven by active p/u (seymour duncan active Blackouts). Now my tone is the talk of the venue with this great amp head. dont be fooled by bigger names, this baby does a stellar job live or at home.

I have the 33W Amp $179 head version and $99 Cab. The Cab speakers are just awful, IMO. The head is criticized for it's dirty channel, but I prefer it over the clean. I swapped pre-amp tubes with Tung Sols. After 2-3 years I just still don't know about this Amp. I A/B it to a Blackheart 1W for about the same price, and the Blackheart sounds better. I just can never get the tone I really really like out of the V series. This Amp may do very well with some MODS. This Amp is symptomatic of getting something "just like" Marshall. Just buy a Marshall, you'll save time and $.

I think you mean ONE humbucker and not "and at least on humbucker"??

Info - ALL the Neck Thru Stagemasters were made in Korea and are NOT Basswood, they are Alder. Basswood is a SOFT and very muted sounding wood, and it's extreme softness can NOT be used with neck thru designs.

In fact, none Fender's three Squier manufactures (Cortex (Cort), Saetung, Samick) ever used Basswood. They either used Asian Ash, Alder or Sen wood. The majority of Squiers made in Korea in the 80's though, were sadly made of Plywood before Fender was using Japan as the "quality" Squiers until they stopped in 1989, so 80's Korean Squiers aren't highly sought after by collectors or player who know better.

Nearly all of whatever you state happens to be supprisingly accurate and that makes me wonder the reason why I hadn't looked at this with this light previously. This article truly did switch the light on for me personally as far as this subject matter goes. But at this time there is one particular point I am not too cozy with and whilst I try to reconcile that with the actual central idea of the point, allow me see what the rest of your subscribers have to point out.Nicely done.

Cracker of an Amp. I got my 333xl for 850.00 AUD, and I wil never sell it. I've played Soldanos, Marshall, Dr Z, Hiwatt, you name it. This by far pisses on them money wise and tone wise. The clean channel is unobtainable on any other Amp I've played at low volumes. Warmth to boot also. I'm a pro player, and this nonsense about not gigging with it is ridiculous. I bring two heads to each gig just in case anyway, regardless of Brand or track records. This is what pro players do: Have a plan B. Little fags who are posting shit about this amp, grow some nuts and do your homework. If Daddy buys you a fucking Mesa that's great, he just wasted $4 K Plus on your rockstar fantasies. Buy this Amp, and most importantly, look after it. It will do the same for you.
