My DOD FX55 Distortion Pedal

I just wanted to pay tribute to my DOD FX55 distortion pedal. I bought it new around 1985 or so. I didn’t know better. I really can’t say anything good about this pedal. It sounds nasally but not in a fuzz face kind of way. It’s not even good for slamming the inputs of a tube amp.

If you ever have the chance to buy one…don’t

The new Supras have a tone control to tame the highs. Don’t judge this pedal by this review. Maybe his personal pedal stinks, but I have a new Chinese-made Supra as well as my original ‘93 US-made unit, and prefer them to a Boss DS-1. They are bright pedals, to be sure, but if you get the three-knob version, you can work out a sweet spot. There’s my opinion. Try it out before you decide it blows, because I’m telling you it doesn’t blow. Get a new one, because they are just as well-built as the old American-ones. Look at it this way: This pedal has been around since the early 80s, and it still in production and DOD’s most popular stomp-box to date. If anything, let it’s track record speak for itself.

    Hello,

I bought the FX55 many years ago and lost it and have been searching for one ever since! If you are interested in getting rid of this pedal, I would LOVE to speak with you about taking it off your hands! Hopefully this goes through okay and if interested, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Thank you for posting your reviews/photos and for such an informative site!

    Vin

When I joined my first band (drums), it was a hardcore punk band. The guitarist was trying to get an amp sound original & unlike anyone else, and whether it was pleasant to hear not was not an issue. He had one of these red distortion pedals and got it to have a real insane weird sound, and after awhile I was real stoked on it, I loved it. His main inspiration was G.B.H, but we found out later that G.B.H’s unlike-anyone-else’s sound actually came from bad video eqipment we saw them on. Our guy also admired Ginn from Black Flag, who was bound and determined NOT to sound like Jimmy Page. That blatant sacrilidge was very inspirational to us.

    Vin,

I have one just like the one in the picture in great condition (minus the box and manual) that I would sell.

    Thanks,
    Ron
